Consul general says livelihood skills a plus for Filipino workers

OFWs will find these livelihood skills handy especially when they decide to go home, said Philippine Consul General Medardo G. Macaraig during the graduation ceremony in the Hibiscus Hall of the Fiesta Resort & Spa, Sunday, for 98 workers who completed basic computer operations 2, basic Nihonggo, basic sewing and commercial cooking courses.

Macaraig lauded the workers for finishing the three-hour classes in eight weeks.

These livelihood programs are organized by the Philippine Consulate General Office, the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and  classes were held at the Marianas Business Plaza in Susupe.

Graduates of the basic sewing class presented a mini-fashion show that featured the clothes  they created.

Two representatives of the basic Nihonggo class — Judith Medalle and Janice Limon — sang Japanese songs, while the basic computer operations 2 students presented a dance number.

The commercial cooking class batch 1 showcased the different dishes they had learned.

Other guests at the graduation ceremony were Labor Representative Joan Lourdes D. Lavilla, Welfare Officer Reynaldo Tayag, Delia S. Palomar who was the program emcee, and the instructors for the different courses — Ma. Teresa A. De Jesus  for basic sewing, Crispulo B. Hilario Jr. for basic computer 2, Leopoldo O. Rodriguez Jr. for basic Nihonggo and Hermie Coronejo for commercial cooking.
