Teachers preparing for new school year

The ongoing training began on Monday, according to Koblerville Elementary School principal Rizalina M. Purunganan, one of the trainers.

Currently being held at Saipan Southern High School, the training is focusing on  the standard basic assessment that will promote student learning, Purunganan said.

Over 60 participants from Rota, Tinian and Saipan will assess their overall data on  professional development, she added.

“This is an annual activity that we usually hold before the opening of classes,” she said.

On the first day, Purunganan said participants discussed standard basic assessment in the classroom, benchmarks, benchmark trackers with formative assessment, and designing lesson plans.

John S. Kendall of Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning, Purunganan said, will present various development programs throughout the training sessions.

Kendall will also talk about the role of standards and benchmarks in the classroom, their implication on teaching and assessment, and instructional practices in language arts, math, science and social studies.
