Boasting off with its vision that states, “To develop the standard of the national men’s and women’s teams and the national youth men’s and youth women’s team to be consistently in the top two places in the Micronesian Region within 4 years, through the establishment of a national development program that encompasses all areas of basketball, ” PBF top official Kazuki “Topps” Sungino has reiterated. “basketball in Palau will be much different on the coming years for we have decided to take drastic measures in restructuring and giving a total revamp in forming a four year development plan to create a higher level of understanding of the game through educating all aspects involved within the game of basketball in Palau” with the help FIBA – Oceania official, Stuart Manwaring. The 4 year plan or now called National Development of Palau has pointed out that it will not only sharpen some edges for improvement but would also paved the way in raising the bar for both coaches and players.
Dubbed as “Basketball Palau”, in meeting the needs of the development plan, some systems within Basketball Palau will require some reorganization by establishing the roles and responsibilities for positions in Basketball Palau, a Basketball Palau 4 year Calendar, a National Registration system, a National Talent Identification system, a National Coach and Player Selection system.In addition to the whole idea of improving and to increase the level of competitions of around the island, The Palau Basketball Federation also will be restructuring its governing bodies which will comprise of, The Palau Basketball Federation Board, The Executive Officers, A National Program Committee, A National Basketball Development Officer, A National Director of Coaching, A National Rules Interpreter, A National Coaching Panel, A National Referee Panel, Local associations / leagues (includes Secondary and Primary Schools Leagues).Currently the positions for National Program Committee (NPC) is composed of Topps Sungino, Bill Keldermans and Sinton Soalablai, while the Topps also holds the spot as the National Basketball Development Officer (NBDO) and where National Director of Coaching (NDC) is occupied by Stuart Manwaring.Following the new development plan for the PBF, they also mentioned that there are still number of areas to improve that includes players, coaches, referees, score tableofficial, statisticians, and administrators that are all part of the preparation to fully achieve the vision for the new Basketball Palau.The Palau National Development Plan is funded by the IOC SOLIDARITY PROGRAM through PNOC and Shell Palau.
