18 complete outpatient substance program

Cris Sablan, substance abuse prevention and addiction services manager, said those who seek treatment for substance addiction can join the program.

The program provides an in-depth treatment for individuals experiencing unceasing problems with alcohol, drugs and other dependencies, Sablan said.

The program also provides information about the physical, emotional, social and legal consequences of alcohol consumption and illegal drug use.

Sablan said alcoholism or drug addiction is a disease that, if untreated, can affect the person’s mental, physical and emotional well-being.

On Friday, 18 graduated from the three-month class of the intensive out-patient substance program.

All of the participants are males 17 years old and above, Sablan said.

Under the program, participants learn about relapse prevention, anger management and toxic recovery.

Sablan said one of the goals of the Community Guidance Center is to reduce the re-hospitalization rate of individuals with mental illness through community-based mental health programs and services.

The center, he added, provides prevention, education services and community awareness  to help reduce the prevalence of mental health problems and substance abuse or use.
