HOPWOOD Middle School 1 and Mount Carmel School won the opening games of the IT&E Interscholastic Boys Middle School Basketball League Wednesday at the Marianas High School gym.
HOP 1 had a tough battle but managed to power through the second half to triumph over Saipan Community School 15-10.
Teamwork was the dreamwork for HOP 1 as they created several shot opportunities. Tyler Omelau, Jerik Javier and Rewilifou Sauman contributed the first three buckets while Paul Lizama showcased his range, adding a three-point shot into his team’s arsenal.
Although SCS did not shine as a team, some of its player did enough to prevent a blowout.
SCS’ Elijah Ye contributed three buckets, Leighton Palacios added two points, and Drei Camacho delivered a triple of his own to cut HOP 1’s lead, 8-9.
SCS, however, failed to stay consistent in the second half and could only score two points.
As for HOP 1, Javier and Sauman sank two points apiece while Dwayne Tabhan joined the scoreboard with the game’s final shot to secure the win over SCS, 15-10.
MCS vs DMS
Mount Carmel School displayed their dominance by outplaying Daddan Middle School 27-11.
Nearly every MCS player had a feel for the ball. Leonard Regalado led the team with nine points while Kern Han and Michael Mercardo Jr. chipped in eight points each.
DMS shared the ball equally among its players with Kian Helgen on the frontline, scoring four points
But MCS as a team played so much better, both offensively and defensively, en route to a double-digit victory.
