Fashion ‘oomph’

But times have changed and the fashion world has evolved. Now we cover ourselves up in fabric such as silk, polyester, jeans, or cotton.

Thanks to fashion designers our choices vary and enable us to dress in a way that represents our individual character.

Many fashion trends have come and gone over the years, from the ’60s tie and dye designs and bell bottom jeans  to the “BIG” ’80s  were  big hair, big shirts and baggy jeans wer the cool look.

Today’s fashion has taken those styles and given them a little “oomph” to compliment the modern style.

Converses that were once dirt cheap are now selling for $70-$80. Skinny jeans a popular style in the ’60s has become the most popular set of jeans among teens. After the modern touch, low rise, a little fade and some bedazzle.

Even the Romans inspired fashion designers. Now gladiators sandals are a “must have” in teen fashion to give you that “exotic, fun and wild” look.

Thanks to modern technology fashion trends have influenced people all over the world, including us here on the little rock islands of the Marianas.

When asked, where do you get your fashion tips? Or, what made you decide to wear that today? The answer is simple: “If I see it and I think I look good in it I get it,” says Juan Iguel a student at Northern Marianas College.

The day’s weather and their mood are the most common factors when deciding what to wear in the morning before starting their day.

“It’s been raining and its really cold in my office” says Stacy Demapan a student at  NMC who decided to rock the casual look, tank top with a checkered cover, ripped jeans and converse shoes.

The most popular spots to score some fashionable gear are Everblue, Ananas, and Tapo, for the classy girlie look or Boarderline and Surf Turf for the island surfer look. Others shop online at spots like forever21, Old Navy, or 6 p.m.com for the unique look because Saipan is such a small island you’re bound to bump into someone rocking the same gear you are.
