Business industries – alcoholic beverages and tobacco companies, in particular – in their attempts to sell their products, have advertised with very persuasive slogans and images, which have directly led the youth into using such products without fully understanding their “after effects”.Through funding support from the State Incentive Grant and assistance and coordinative efforts of other agencies – the Council of Chiefs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Health, Council on Substance Abuse Prevention, and state governments – and a stream of committed volunteers, programs have been implemented in attempt to redirect youth perception and to keep them on the right track. The programs bring the youth into areas of the society to “see” first hand the real end results of using and abusing alcohol and other drugs. They get to visit institutions that house the victims of the products; and at the same time, hear of their stories. It is hoped that as the youth participate in these programs and activities, they will be convinced to keep off alcohol and drugs; and that everyone be committed to ensure that alcohol and drugs would no longer destroy lives.
