Governor reappoints Geralyn Dela Cruz to scholarship board, nominates Eugenio Villagomez to NMTI

GOVERNOR Ralph DLG Torres on Wednesday last week renominated Geralyn Dela Cruz to the CNMI Scholarship Board of Directors, and nominated Eugenio L. Villagomez to the Northern Marianas Technical Institute Board of Trustees.

In his appointment letter to Dela Cruz, the governor said: “I am pleased to re-submit your re-nomination to serve as member of the CNMI Scholarship Board of Directors representing the Third Senatorial District.”

The governor said he was confident that Dela Cruz will continue to devote her time and efforts to represent the interest of the community on the board. “Your willingness to serve our people is most appreciated,” he added.

If confirmed by the Senate, Dela Cruz, who is also the zoning administrator, will serve another four-year term that will expire on June 22, 2026.

The scholarship board reviews applications for student grants, loans and other programs of student financial assistance administered by the CNMI Scholarship Office. It also recommends objective standards for the awards of student financial aid.

The governor “respectfully requests” the Senate for a favorable action on Dela Cruz’s appointment.

In a separate letter, the governor told Eugenio L. Villagomez, “I am confident in your leadership to carry out the mandates of the Board of Trustees in the administration of the NMTI.”

“I look forward to working collaboratively with the newly established board to accomplish our administration’s goals and objectives in the development of career, trades and technical training program for the Commonwealth,” the governor added.

Like Dela Cruz, Villagomez’s nomination requires Senate consent.

Villagomez is currently the Department of Public Safety’s Tinian resident director.
