NMI sends Covid-19 relief aid to FSM, Marshall Islands

THE Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands will soon receive much-needed Covid-19 relief supplies from the CNMI.

“It’s our turn to give back to our brothers and sisters who have helped us in our time of need,” said Patrick Guerrero, the governor’s authorized representative for the Covid-19 disaster.

He noted that in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yutu, the neighboring jurisdictions had sent relief supplies to aid the CNMI.

The CNMI Homeland Security warehouse in Afetna on Wednesday morning was filled with Covid-19 supplies, majority of which were from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Guerrero said the CNMI is sending 25,000 antigen test kits each to the FSM and the RMI.

Other items that will be sent include 25,000 N95 masks, 4,000 gloves, several gowns, and numerous face shields in various sizes.

“We’ll be sending them down as quickly as we can. We want to get these to them because now is their time of need, not next week, but today. So the quicker we can get this down, I’m sure that they would greatly appreciate it,” Guerrero said.

Some of the items will be shipped by air and the rest by surface.

“If they call on us for more, I’m sure we could step up to the plate and provide additional supplies that they might need,” Guerrero said.

The World Health Organization stated that as of Wednesday the FSM had 7,174 confirmed positive Covid-19 cases and 21 deaths; while the RMI had 3,975 confirmed positive Covid-19 cases and 5 deaths.

As of July 14, a total of 153,997 vaccine doses had been administered in the FSM while the RMI had administered 72,668 doses.

According to the World Bank, as of 2020, there were roughly 115,000 people in the FSM and about 59,000 in the RMI.
