Investigation into fatal car crash ongoing

THE investigation into a car crash that killed the driver early Saturday morning continues, according to the Department of Public Safety’s public information officer, Sgt. Fred Sato.

“At this time, I don’t have anything to add,” he said.

Asked if alcohol was involved, Sato said he had not received any information about that.

“There was no other vehicle involved in the car crash…and I was told that the female passenger is in stable condition,” he said.

As the incident is still under investigation, Sato said he is not authorized to release the identity of the deceased.

DPS stated that on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 2:33 a.m., DPS 911 received a report of a vehicle crash near a coffee shop on Chalan Monsignor Guerrero Road in Kannat Tabla.

At about 2:38 a.m., an officer arrived and met with the 911 caller. The officer observed a red Nissan Hardbody pick-up truck resting, facing southeast in contact with a wooden power pole. The driver and passenger were unconscious.

Medics arrived at the scene and immediately transported the passenger, who was still breathing, to the hospital. The driver, a 44-year-old man, had no pulse and was not breathing. He was also transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:20 a.m. by Dr. Elizabeth Culp.
