Leaders from the 14 Pacific Island Forum (PIF) countries, including Palau will be attending the meeting slated from May 22 to 23.
This year the theme will be about establishing a Pacific Environmental CommunityThe objective of the summit is to Build region-wide cooperation in the area of environment and climate change to realize common interests based on shared vision.Japan and the PIF countries will also be working together as equal partners to strengthen assistance.Another objective of the summit is to overcome vulnerabilities and promoting human security in the areas of health, water supply and education.Japan’s objective in this year’s summit is to provide assistance to alleviate the adverse impact of the current global economic crisis on the Pacific Island countries.Japan’s initiative in establishing the PALM summits has been very well received by PIF members.It is seen as contributing to the sustainable development of the Pacific region.
