Ten are from Yap, 11 from Pohnpei, three from Kosrae, 14 from Chuuk and 10 are from the Federated States of Micronesia National Police Department.
They are training at the former PATS High School in Madolenihmw here in Pohnpei.
The academy is a three-month program that aims to develop the skills and knowledge of the Micronesian police force in their line of duty.
This years’ program is partially funded by the U.S. Department of the Interior which provided $107,000, while the FSM Congress appropriated an additional $40,000.
The first academy was funded by the Pacific Region Policing Initiative which provided $50,000 in technical support that was matched by the FSM government.
This year’s academy is under the command of Sgt. Joab Paul from Pohnpei and Deputy Cmdr. Siana Seker of Chuuk.
They are assisted by Officer Hilario Bermanis from the national police, Officer Fredrick Nedlik of Kosrae and Officer Darney Phillip of Pohnpei.
The graduation ceremony is expected to be held in July.
