4 job fairs for Census 2010 applicants

part-time and full-time workers will be needed for the CNMI Census activities which will begin on April 1, 2010.

The job fairs will be held on the following dates:

• Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the multi-purpose center in Susupe.

• Dec. 7, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.,  Saipan Southern High School cafeteria in Koblerville.

• Dec. 9, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Chacha Oceanview Junior High School cafeteria in Kagman.

• Dec. 10, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tanapag Elementary School cafeteria in Tanapag.

The testing will take 30 to 45 minutes and will be offered every half hour for an applicant with a completed application.

An applicant must bring an ID picture to complete the testing on the day of the job fair.

Barry said a police clearance is not needed to apply but it must be submitted prior to employment if selected, along with a mandatory drug screening.

To qualify for U.S. Census employment, an applicant must be at least 18 years old and a high school or ged graduate, must have a Social Security number, must submit to the Federal Bureau of Investigation fingerprint screening, pass a written test of basic skills and must have a valid driver’s license as this is necessary for most field   jobs.

Some applicants may be hired at age 16 if they meet conditions of employment set by local laws and are high school graduates. Non-U.S. citizen applicants may be considered if qualified workers are still needed as translators or enumerators with special language skills.

Applicants are urged to complete the applications forms which can be picked up at the local Census office located at the International Terminal Loop next to the Saipan International Airport or at the Office of Personnel Management before going to the job fair.
