Last week, the Saipan Community Church, the Saipan Cornerstone Christian Church as well as other churches and schools brought their donations to the mayor’s office, its public information officer Tony Benavente said.
Sally B. Villanueva donated boxes of used shoes.
Benavente said they are still waiting for other schools to turn over their donations, which will then be brought to Karidat.
A church-based charitable organization, Karidat will distribute these donations to individuals and families who are in need of help.
Last week, Mayor Juan B. Tudela signed the Feed Saipan Thursday Proclamation and encouraged members of the community to continue their generosity despite the economic hardships they are experiencing.
Benavente said the mayor will continue to work with different organizations to sustain local programs for the indigent and the needy.
In his proclamation, Tudela said that “selfless sacrifice breeds a genuine spirit of Thanksgiving, both affirming and restoring fundamental values of caring and compassion for the poor in our society.”
