“There’s no basis to be confident, Press Secretary Charles Reyes Jr. said in an interview yesterday.
He added that they were still waiting to hear from Homeland Security.
Reyes said it is Sablan who is now communicating with the federal government, and there is no way for the administration to know whether Homeland Security will delay it or not.
The federal immigration law will apply to the CNMI beginning on June 1, 2009 unless the secretary of Homeland Security decides to delay it for 180-days.
The CNMI earlier requested the federal government to suspend the next round of federally mandated wage increase, but this didn’t happen.
The governor has sued the U.S. government to prevent the implementation of the federalization law.
