Calvo says Rota trade school may open next year

He said he has met with the Northern Marianas Trades Institute officials on Saipan, including its founder, local businessman Anthony Pellegrino, who agreed to establish a satellite school on Rota.

This program is in preparation for Rota’s casino industry and the military buildup on Guam, Calvo said.

He added that he is also coordinating with trade school officials on Guam to help facilitate training on Rota.

The trade skills that will be offered  include plumbing, carpentry and painting.

This will provide employee training opportunities for residents and expand the local labor pool on Rota, Calvo said.

Northern Marianas College will help provide rooms for the classes on Rota, he added.

Pellegrino has said that his institute on Saipan has already recruited qualified and certified teachers.
