Cing hired Jerry Camacho in early 1991. “He’s the best mason on Tinian, if not the CNMI,” the former senator said. “There may be confusion over the guest worker issue, but I’m not confused and I’m absolutely sure that Jerry deserves improved status. This guy has skills and talent — you can take that to the bank.”
Cing is requesting the Philippine consulate general on Saipan to “please convey my gratitude to the Philippine government for allowing Jerry to work here, and to his family also. I’m really very thankful for them.”
Camacho, now 59, is from Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija, a province north of Manila.
“I wish he could stay, but he wants to be with his family now,” Cing said, referring to Camacho who leaves for the Philippines today. “I understand that. We’re all getting old.”
The former senator recalled that he used to have 48 employees.
“If I were mayor during those days, I would have allowed my workers to train local residents and Tinian could have been different today,” he added.
“But that’s in the past, and today it saddens me to say goodbye to a good man who has been with us through thick and thin. God bless him and his family.”
