Court places woman in marriage fraud case on probation

Visiting Judge Mark W. Bennett of the Northern District of Iowa also required Camacho to pay a $100 special assessment fee.

Camacho’s co-defendant, Crisanto Maderal Olivos, opted for self-deportation after the federal cour placed him on two years probation for his involvement in a marriage fraud conspiracy.

Bennett sentenced Camacho, who was on Guam, via video conferencing.

Camacho was represented by Robert Torres, who was also on Guam, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Kirk Schuler served as the prosecutor.

Bennett directed Camacho not to commit any federal, state and local crimes; to not possess a firearms or other dangerous weapon; to not use or possess illegal controlled substances; and to cooperate in DNA collection as directed by the Federal Probation Office.

Bennett suspended the mandatory drug conditions based on the court’s determination that Camacho poses a low risk of substance abuse.

The prosecution said Olivos entered into a fraudulent marriage with a U.S. citizen on Sept. 14, 2001.

Camacho paid the U.S. citizen to marry Olivos, the prosecution said.

Olivos received his “green card” on Jan. 4, 2007.

Camacho and Olivos were separately arrested by federal agents last January.
