Defendants in theft, stolen property case to change plea today

Defendants Antonio Sablan Demapan, 55, and John Tenorio Sablan, 50, are scheduled to attend their change of plea hearing today.

Demapan and Sablan are facing charges of two counts of conspiracy, and two counts of removal of government property.

In addition, Demapan is facing two counts of theft, two counts of theft by unlawful taking, and two counts of misconduct in public office, while Sablan faces two counts of receiving stolen property.

The Attorney General’s Office filed the charges against Demapan and Sablan in May 2008.

Court records showed that 352.6 gallons of diesel fuel which were given to DPW transportation automotive heavy equipment division were “donated” to JG Sablan.

A government-owned bulldozer was also transferred by DPW to Sablan without following proper procedures and without any documentation or necessary approvals.

“These actions occurred and/or were performed during working hours utilizing government vehicles at the direction and instruction and supervision of [Demapan] during his acting directorship of DPW TAHED, the performance and conduct [of the defendant] only benefits a private company…and its owner.. and not DPW TAHED or the CNMI government,” the AGO White Collar Crime/Government Corruption Unit stated.
