IS Senate Vice President Jose M. Dela Cruz the one giving salary to his own daughter who was earlier reported working under the office of Sen. Ricardo S. Atalig as a community worker?
A week after sources alleged that the some members of the Senate have “ghosts employees,” documents provided by a senator indicated where the salary of Dela Cruz’s daughter came from.
Records furnished to the media yesterday by Sen. Ramon S. Guerrero, American Reform-Saipan, showed that Dela Cruz transferred a portion of his operational account to Atalig’s account.
The amount appears to be the same amount that the Senate vice president’s daughter is receiving from Atalig based on her excepted service employment contract.
Dela Cruz denied to comment on the matter. He said he will wait for the outcome of the investigation being conducted by the Office of the Public Auditor.
A copy of a memorandum signed by Dela Cruz, D-Tinian, dated Feb. 21, 2002 requested the Office of the Governor to transfer $14,563.88 from his account no. 1702 to Atalig’s account no. 1793 on a quarterly basis beginning in the second quarter, or Jan. 2002.
Based on another document provided by Guerrero, Dela Cruz’s daughter and Atalig signed her employment contract for nine months or from Jan. 14 until Sept. 30, 2002 and will receive a salary which is the same amount of money that his father transferred to Atalig’s account.
The contract shows that Dela Cruz’s daughter was hired as community worker on Saipan wherein the “total government obligation (for her salary) is not to exceed $14,563.88.” It was earlier reported that Dela Cruz’s daughter while assigned to do community work on Saipan, is actually on Guam as a full time student at the University of Guam. Dela Cruz said his daughter had been studying on Guam for the last two years.
