This was formalized at the recent signing of the Country Program Action Plan 2008-2012 between the government of Palau and UNDP. CPAP was developed in close consultation between government and other key stakeholders.
In the area of poverty reduction and Millennium Development Goals, UNDP will support the national development monitoring effort to collect data on the MDGs and develop a national poverty line to ensure the publication of a Palau MDG report by the end of this year.
In an effort to foster good governance, UNDP will conduct an orientation program for members of the Olbiil Era Kelulau, Palau’s national legislature, and together with key stakeholders, jointly assess the development needs to support the legislature and the offices of the clerk and legal counsel in performing their roles in accordance with the Constitution of Palau.
For environment and sustainable management, the implementation of the planned sustainable economic through renewable energy applications and the sustainable land management projects will provide increased access to renewable energy and natural resources that will support sustainable livelihood options.
To support implementation of these programs, UNDP will establish its local office in Koror by the end of this year.
The office will also represent interests of the United Nations Population Fund and United Nations Children’s Fund and coordinate activities related to the broader United Nations Development Assistance Framework in the Pacific for 2008-2012.
