DPW Safety Officer 1 Bernardo R. Cruz indicated that the Director of the Operations and Maintenance Division, Alex Chong, hit him twice and bumped his head on a wall.
The two reportedly made a bet on the gubernatorial runoff and Cruz lost.
In his incident report to the Department of Public Safety, Cruz stated that Chong challenged him to a fight in front of other DPW employees on the day the incident occurred. Cruz said he refused to fight. He also did not fight back when Chong assaulted him, he added. Instead, he said he called the police and filed a complaint.
Neglected
Fifteen days after the complaint was made, Cruz said DPS had not taken any action.
Cruz said he has not seen a formal police report and complaint.
He said the Attorney General’s Office informed him that DPS did not file his complaint and he was thus asked to follow-up on the matter internally with DPS.
“DPS [could not] show me a formal written complaint or an incident report when I went there on Monday,” Cruz said.
He added that the complaint he made to DPW Secretary Diego Songsong against Chong was taken for granted and that “there was no action taken.”
Cruz believes there is “something politically motivated going on between DPW and DPS.”
He and his family are “upset and in pain because of the situation.”
Investigation
Acting DPW Secretary Joseph Inos, in a statement yesterday, said they were conducting an internal investigation. He said they are also entrusting the case to DPS since Cruz already made a formal complaint.
“What more can I do when there is already an investigation going on?” Inos said.
He added that it was a “lie” to claim that there was no police report “because I saw it.”
According to Inos, DPW is doing its best to settle the problem.
Variety failed to get a statement from DPS as of press time last night.
