Drug Abuse Resistance Education program advocates visited the students of Hopwood Junior High School yesterday.
Officer Roy Kaipat presented an education slideshow about common prescription drugs and over-the-counter drugs.
Kaipat said it is important to inform students that there are legal and illegal drugs out there.
He also provided the students with information on how to read labeling on medicine bottles and packages.
Students told Variety that they learned the difference between an over-the-counter drug and a prescribed drug.
They were also informed that people are abusing the drugs meant to improve the health and learned that abuse of any drug leads to sickness.
All schools have an awareness program arming students with knowledge on the dangers associated with just to name a few.
The DARE program has played an active role in the community in keeping the youths from involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence.
DARE is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives.
