Feds asked to probe mauling of guest worker

She said the incident sets a bad example.

Department of Public Safety Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela confirmed that a police officer was involved in the Oct. 18 mauling of Jin Dong Wang in As Lito.

“I hope that person will be terminated,” Doromal told the Variety, adding that police officers are not even allowed to hit criminals.

Doromal said the FBI can also determine if the incident is a “hate crime.”

Wang, a former garment worker, was hit with a handgun on his head by a police officer who also repeatedly kicked the victim. The officer thought that Wang was the drug dealer wanted by the polce.

Rabby Syed, United Workers Movement-NMI president, said the DPS commissioner should take appropriate action.

“This is not about guest workers or indigenous people but about the security of the people of the CNMI.”
