DPW Technical Services Division Director Joe Inos, in an interview yesterday, said once the review of the environmental assessment is done, they can already determine when to start the development of the design and construction of the two destination enhancement projects.
The environmental assessment for the Kalabera Cave project, Inos said, is being reviewed by OIA.
“It’s looking good for both sides. It is likely that the [environmental assessment] for Kalabera Cave will be done this year,” Inos said.
Among the issues that are being addressed are the preservation of historical sites and natural habitats, he added.
“It is just a matter of organizing reports and getting a few more inputs from federal and local environmental agencies,” he said.
Inos said once the assessment is completed, they will hold public hearings before working on the design and construction for the two projects.
The Kalabera Cave project will develop the surrounding area in Marpi while the Lake Susupe project will see the construction of a boardwalk.
