Department of Public Works Technical Services Division Director Joe Inos said the pre-bidding will start at 10 a.m.
The $7 million project will pave the way for the development of a park on top of the former landfill almost six years after it was ordered closed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The project will enhance the island’s aesthetics and provide the public with an additional park, according to DPW Secretary Diego B. Songsong.
It will also prevent potential contamination of the water surrounding Saipan’s seaport area, he added.
Federal law requires the CNMI to implement post-closure care during which the water in the area will be tested twice a year in 30 years.
