He said the proposed trail will   be a healthy and recreational walking area ideal for the exploration activities of the Boy Scouts.

The trail, moreover, will be a new tourism attraction on island, he added.

Flores met with Boy Scouts officials on Friday during the signing of a resolution endorsing the designation of Feb. 8 to 14 as CNMI Boy Scouting Week.

The mayor said the development of the Laulau eco-tourism trail requires the support of the entire Saipan community, including the Boy Scouts.

“I am open to discuss this proposed project,” he said.

On Friday, the scouts  celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America with Lt. Gov. Eloy S. Inos signing a proclamation for Boy Scouting Week.

In the resolution, Flores said the Boy Scout program has produced “true leaders in the commonwealth who are trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.”

He commended private individuals, local businesses and the community “for their invaluable assistance [to] and support [for] the Boy Scout program [so it can] continue building character, fitness and citizenship for years to come.”
