Hotel executive wants to see continuity of tourism programs

Pacific Islands Club general manager Kieran Daly said a re-elected governor will act on programs that are already  in progress and continue in the same direction.

A new official, he added, will start again on a  different priority.

“Having somebody come in for a second term will give the destination a far better opportunity to continue a long-term strategy,” Daly said.

He is satisfied with how the Marianas Visitors Authority is carrying out its tourism programs, but he said MVA also needs more funding.

Tourism is the CNMI’s biggest revenue and government officials, including lawmakers, understand the situation of the industry, he added.

The CNMI government, he said, must continue to beautify the islands.

“They must make a big effort on stray dogs to just make it a much more pleasing memory for the people that come here,” he said.

He said the Hotel Association of the Northern Marianas Islands is grateful to Saipan Mayor Donald G. Flores for vowing to address the   stray dog problem.

HANMI is willing to support the program by, for example, allocating funds from their sport events, Daly added.

“We have a golf classic every year and some of the funds that will be raise can go toward supporting anything we can do to relieve this problem,” he said.
