Mikaela Rosario, third grade student of Derwin Johnson, got the first place for Life Science, while Charissa Parco, third grade student of Sally Yamagishi, topped the Health Science category.
Albert Jaconto, sixth grader, placed second in the Life Science category. His teacher is Maryann Arriola.
Joyce Nisola, fourth grader, and Christian Shirk, sixth grader, received the second and third prizes in the Health Science category.
Nisola’ teacher is John Aldrick while Shirk’s teacher is Maryann Arriola.
For the Earth Science category, John Dimalanta, second grader, got the first prize; Jullianne Bigueras, sixth grader, placed second; and Sean Ancheta, second grader, won third prize.
Dimalanta is a student of Lyzandra Barcinas. Bigueras’ teacher is Lyvonne Taisakan while Ancheta’s teacher is Joy Yumul.
Fifth grade Mia Sablan won first prize in the Technology and Electronics category. Sixth grader Jamie Mariano and second grader Angelica Cabrera placed second and third.
Paz Mettao is Sablan’s teacher; Brady Bussler is Mariano’s teacher; and Lori Terre is Cabrera’s teacher.
Two fourth grade students were among the top winners for the Physical Science category: Timothy Retirado and Xavier Villamena, who finished first and third.
Retirado’s teacher is John Aldrich while Villamena’s teacher is Wil Garon.
Ann Gascon, the second grade student of Joy Yumul, placed second.
Derwin Johnson of the school’s science and health and wellness committee said the winning students will join the island-wide Science Technology Electronics and Math Fair on March 20 whose winners will compete in the Guam Science Expo.
Garapan’s Science Fair was held last Feb. 27 in the school cafeteria.
This year judges were Manny Borja and Joe Kaipat from the Division of Environmental Quality, and Marianas High School science teachers Brian Davis, Scott Ayden, and Mike Blasberg
Garapan teachers Pam Thorpe, Paul Salalila, Lyvonne Taisacan, Claire Dela Cruz, and Lori Terre also joined the panel of judges.
Johnson thanked the school’s Science Fair coordinators Lawrence Buniag and Johna Rumley for organizing the event.
“Their dedication and commitment to Garapan Elementary School is much valued,” he said.
