Hopwood students, teachers play ball

A softball league was organized involving 11 teams for boys and six teams for girls and one team for the teachers.

Last Friday, the teachers led by principal Jonas Barcinas joined the students in a friendly ballgame.

“Physical fitness is important and we need to be fit with the students,” he said.

The program also prevents students from resorting to any “unnecessary activities” during breaktime.

He added, however, that after a month as the school’s new principal, there had been no report of untoward incidents on campus.

Teacher Lou Wabol said the ballgames help build camaraderie among teachers and students.

The school has over 1,100 students.

Fermina Tereyama, an eighth grader, said she appreciates the sports program.

“I am hoping this will give a strong message to the students that the school is very concerned about us,” she said.

J.J. Benavente, another eighth grader, said playing with the teachers was “fun” — especially “when we’re winning.”
