Inos finds woman guilty of promoting prostitution

Inos  set the sentencing hearing for Wei Juan Chen, 40, also known as Mama-San, on Wednesday next week. She is currently out on bail.

A U.S. Navy special agent who acted as an undercover agent testified in court that Chen offered “special military discount” for sex services at the Hollywood Karaoke Bar in Garapan.

“We’re satisfied with the outcome. We have kept [the prostitutes] off the streets,” Assistant Attorney General Eli Golob told reporters after the trial.

Chen is facing a maximum imprisonment of five years for the felony offense, Golob said.

The Public Defender’s Office represented Chen, while He Yue Juan, who was found not guilty, was represented by court-appointed attorney Joaquin DLG. Torres.

Twelve women were arrested at the Hollywood Karaoke Bar and Kelly’s Bar when the Department of Public Safety, the U.S. Navy’s Crime Investigative Unit, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Marshals Service raided both establishments during two nights of operation in March 2009.
