Jan. 31-Feb. 5 is Catholic Schools Week

The CNMI’s Catholic schools are Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja on Rota, St. Joseph on Tinian and Mt. Carmel on Saipan.

This year’s theme is “Catholic Schools: Dividends for Life.”

“That’s the national theme that all Catholic schools in the nation use,” said Margaret C. Dela Cruz, president of Mount Carmel School.

This year’s celebration is partly to recognize benefactors, donors, parents and volunteers of the schools as well as to highlight the importance of a Catholic education in the life of a Catholic child.

“There’s a whole series of events that will take place every day of the week culminating with a family night on Friday, Feb. 5,” said Dela Cruz.

Catholic Schools Week has been celebrated for more than 10 years.  On Saipan, there are almost 500 students in Catholic schools.

“We are always thankful that there are still families that really believe in Catholic education and choose to send their children to Catholic schools,” Dela Cruz said.
