The Foundation board members turned over two separate checks of $10,000 each to American Red Cross-NMI chapter executive director John Hirsh and to Japanese Consul Tsutomu Higuchi.
Hirsh said the assistance they received from Joeten as well as all the other donations they get from other agencies and organizations will be turned over to the Japan Red Cross which is providing direct assistance to the tsunami and earthquake survivors.
“We are very glad for the continued support of the Joeten Charitable Foundation for the past years, and we are grateful for their assistance in this time of dire need,” Hirsh said.
Higuchi said his office is also going to send the donation to the Red Cross in Japan.
“We are very thankful to the Joeten Charitable Foundation for this generous donation. It will go a long way to help the thousands of homeless families and individuals from the devastation that struck Japan. I cannot suppress my deepest emotion for the disaster, and I will be continually grateful to the community for showing their concern,” Higuchi told reporters.
In his statement, Joeten Group of Companies president Clarence Tenorio said he “watched on television with horror the great devastation and suffering the people of Japan are not going through after the great and unwarranted natural disaster and now the explosion of the nuclear power plants.”
Tenorio said he has no doubt that the people of Japan will emerge from this catastrophe stronger.
“Our hearts and prayers are in unity with the Japanese people,” he said.
Joeten Motor Company Inc. president Frances T. Demapan said the Joeten Group of Companies feels that it is their duty to make donations to Gov. Benigno R. Fitial’s joint fund drive with the Consulate of Japan and the American Red Cross-NMI chapter to benefit the victims of the disaster.
“The Joeten Group of Companies also believes that when these tragedies strike, it is important for businesses to step up to the plate and assist in any way possible,” she added.
