JROTC needs $90K budget

THE U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps says it needs some $90,000 for its start-up costs.

In a presentation made during a recent Board of Education meeting, JROTC coordinator Ernest Torres said the amount would be spent for instructor salaries, computers, Internet connection, insurance, office materials, rifles, laundry, transportation and uniforms.

JROTC said it would need $42,000 for instructors; $30,000 for uniforms; $3,500 for computers and the Internet connection; $5,400 for demilitarized rifles; $1,400 for office materials; and $800 for insurance.

The figures were the estimated expenses for an average of 100 cadets.

Over 500 high schools students are JROTC members. Marianas High School’s Dolphin Battalion has 440, Rota High School’s Buck Battalion has 59 and Tinian’s Stallion has 79.
