Live demo at Arts Pacifica Exhibit starting today

The Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture Heritage and Arts Pacifica Exhibit officially opened yesterday morning in the lobby function room of the Hyatt.

Darrell Moteisou, who was manning the exhibit yesterday, said there will be demonstrations today on different crafts like bead making, handmade jewelry and other forms of art.

He said a handful of locals and tourists inspected the exhibit  yesterday.

“We usually don’t have many people on the first day but we are expecting more people in the next days,” he said.

The Cultural Heritage and Arts Pacifica Exhibit features masterpieces of the CNMI’s local artists, including handmade jewelry using local materials like tangan-tangan seeds and shells by Edward Terlaje, postcards and photographs by Leslie Ware, Jack Hardy, Larry Lee, leaf painting by Ernie David, lava-lava products by traditional artist Mariana Ebilane, paintings by visual artist Rosanna C. Villaraiz, glass ornaments and postcards by Joe Weaver, beads and bracelets by Gordon Salas, handcrafted Chamorro jewelry and carvings by Martin Castro Jr., oil paintings by Maritess Sabalan, wood carvings by Nick Klewei, traditional art by Vicente Duenas, grass skit from young coconut leaves by Melisa Lieto from the Community Outreach Program of the Tinian Mayor’s Office, artwork from recycled materials by Priscilla Pangelinan, Gancho Marianas jewelry products, and more.

Arts Council Executive Director Angel S. Hocog earlier urged the community to come and buy or view the artwork of the island’s local artists. The exhibit is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  from Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. The exhibit area is closed on Sundays.
