DELEGATE Kimberlyn King-Hinds said Friday that the CNMI is poised to receive nearly $6 million in projects she secured in the fiscal year 2027 U.S. spending measure.
The spending bill, approved by the U.S. House Appropriations Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration and Related Agencies, includes funding for nine CNMI projects totaling $5,684,950.
King-Hinds said the investments address critical needs across the CNMI:
• $1 million – Emergency Typhoon Shelter for Tinian
• $900,000 – Technology Infrastructure and Digital Initiative, Northern Marianas College
• $800,000 – Fire Protection and Plumbing Improvements, NMI Judiciary
• $800,000 – Veterans Retreat and Resource Center
• $750,000 – Transit Ambulances, Department of Fire and Emergency Medical Services
• $584,950 – Senior Center Renovation and Service Improvement
• $300,000 – Training Center and Storage Facility, Department of Lands and Natural Resources
• $300,000 – Campus Outfitting for Workforce Training, Northern Marianas Technical Institute
• $250,000 – Heavy Equipment Acquisition for Rota
King-Hinds thanked Commonwealth agencies for developing strong proposals that secured approval from the U.S. House Appropriations Committee.
“I look forward to working with my colleagues to advance this bill through the full Appropriations Committee and to the House floor,” King-Hinds said.
At the White House
King-Hinds also said she discussed the federal response to the CNMI in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Sinlaku with a White House official.
She said Jack Rosemond, special assistant to the president in the White House Office of Legislative Affairs, visited her office Tuesday and is now her office’s primary point of contact at the White House.
King-Hinds said they discussed several pressing issues facing the CNMI, particularly the impacts of Super Typhoon Sinlaku and the ongoing federal response.
“I am grateful to President Trump and his team for the swift approval of the emergency declaration and for the major disaster declaration that is forthcoming. Thank you, Jack, for your visit and for the White House’s continued support for the people of the Northern Mariana Islands,” she said.
