Phillips, the MHS teacher of the year, has a Master of Science degree and is a staff instructor for the Professional Association of Diving Instructors.
He has taught marine science, honors astronomy and advanced placement physics at MHS since 2004.
Phillips recently developed a marine science course for students who want to earn a PADI open water certification while conducting their own underwater marine research.
Moreover, he developed a vocational education course that allows participating senior students to earn PADI instructor credentials prior to graduation, thus preparing them for employment with the diving and tourism industry.
