Micronesian Repatriation Association to conduct memorial services in NMI

Pacific Development Inc.  group section assistant manager Hiroko Tajima said the group will conduct its 42nd memorial service at Tower of Okinawa on Monday in Marpi at 11 a.m.

They will arrive on May 30 and stay until June 3.

Tajima said PDI has been providing services and arrangements for the memorial service of the Micronesian Repatriation Association for many years now.

After the memorial service on Saipan, the group will fly to Tinian and conduct a memorial service on Tuesday at 11 a.m.

“Some members will also visit Rota and stay for an overnight trip,” Tajima said.

The memorial service on Saipan and Tinian are open to the public.

Some of the guests were born in the Northern Marianas during the Japanese administration and will be visiting places “they hold dear to their hearts as they remember their childhood on Saipan, Tinian and Rota,” Tajima said.

She said they are expecting the elderly guests to arrive with their children and grandchildren.

“Those who cannot make it because of old age  are sending their children to attend the memorial services,” she added.

“This is their home in “Micronesia,” she said.

Tajima said the group used to host local students from Saipan, Tinian, Rota for a cultural exchange program between Okinawa and the NMI for many years.

The group wishes to meet with local residents who have visited Okinawa through this exchange program.
