NMC students seek answers to their questions

“I don’t know why students pursued the petition for an explanation of Samuel McPhetres’ non-renewal if both [NMC President Carmen] Fernandez and [interim President Lorraine] Cabrera will not look into it nor grant our request,” F. Palacios said.

Palacios declined to disclose his first name because “it’s not yet safe to say just anything you want about the school to the media.”

McPhetres is a former social studies instructor whose contract was not renewed by Fernandez.

Palacios’s friend, Jean Cruz, a criminal justice student, said “the scandals and controversies should end so the college can move on.”

Five of her friends agreed.

They also want “good instructors such as McPhetres and Glenn Keaton,” the former chairman of the sciences, math, health and athletics department,  re-hired by the college.

Keaton’s contract was also not renewed by Fernandez.

Yesterday on campus, students posted flyers stating: “Who started it all?,” “What really happened?,” “Students first before Politricks!”.

One of the students who saw the flyers said: “This is good —we can voice what is on our minds and start a campaign like this.”

Another student said, “Red shirts are for NMC students but for me red shirts means war.”

He added, “The war is between faculty members and the administration and also include the students fighting for their freedom of expression.”
