NMI youth disappointed with gubernatorial election results

But he’s still confident that his gubernatorial bet, Heinz S. Hofschneider, will win  on Nov. 23, although he’s not happy that  he may be wrong.

“Why doesn’t the Election Commission  just honor the current results?” he asked.

Joaquin Ayuyu, another NMC student, said he doesn’t feel like voting again since his candidate, Ramon S. Deleon Guerero, did not make it to the final two.

“He is my only choice,” he said. “But I want Hofschneider to win [in the runoff].”

A liberal arts student who declined to be identified said he feels bad because Gov. Benigno R. Fitial didn’t finish first.

He believes that Fitial could have overtaken Hofschneider’s eight-vote lead if only his friends were able to vote.

“They strongly supported him,” he said.

His friends did not register to vote because they do not believe in the election system.

Seven other students interviewed by this reporter said they supported  Hofschneider and don’t mind having a runoff because they believe a majority of CNMI voters have had enough already of the current administration.

Five who supported Juan T. Guerrero said they still have not decided  who to vote for in the runoff.
