Over $9M more needed for MVA, NMHC

Only $132 million can be appropriated for fiscal year 2011, which starts on Oct. 1, and the House has yet to act on the budget bill, or H.B. 17-96, because the administration has concerns about the funding breakdowns.

Not included in the budget r are the $6.2 million that MVA asked two weeks ago to save the Osaka and Nagoya air seats, and the $1.5 million that NMHC has been asking to resolve default loans and ensure that it will have possession of 32 homes.

Speaker Froilan C. Tenorio, Covenant-Saipan, also plans to give MVA $2 million more to double its effort in promoting Rota and increase air seats from Japan.

In an interview early this week, Tenorio said they must consider the dire funding needs of MVA and the NMHC and appropriate money for them for FY 2011.

This is why lawmakers need to introduce revenue generating measures “so we can safely project additional millions of dollars in 2011,” he said.

These additional revenues, he said, are not going to be reflected in the FY 2011 budget.

Senate President Paul A. Manglona, Ind.-Rota, said he is glad that MVA’s need to promote Rota and Tinian is being acknowledged by the House.
