“We would like to have the Antonio Camacho Atalig Memorial Library up and running before the culmination of the celebration of the National Library Month next month,” Gonzales told the Variety.
He said all the boxes of books they sent from Joeten-Kiyu are ready to be placed on the shelves for circulation.
“The books have already been catalogued and are ready for use. The latest books that came in — those that were donated by Congressman Gregorio Kilili Sablan’s office — should be ready after those are catalogued and placed with bar codes,” Gonzales said.
Eight internet-ready computer units they sent from Joeten-Kiyu already arrived on Rota last Friday.
Gonzales said information technology staffers from Joeten-Kiyu will be on Rota to install computer programs and train the library staffers.
“We hope to have this done before the end of April because we know the people of Rota are waiting for the library services to start,” Gonzales said.
He said with the computers ready for use, the library can start offering computer classes on Rota.
Rota librarian Lynn Atalig earlier told the Variety that the books were ready for circulation and they were just waiting to tie some loose ends before the library could officially be opened. She said additional shelves were also available to accomodate more books in the library.
Joeten-Kiyu is also gearing up for monthlong activities this April in celebration of the American Library Association National Library Week 2011 on April 10-16.
Gonzales said they will be promoting the event on Rota, Tinian, and Saipan and through the library outreach services with the Bookmobile.
