In an interview yesterday, Sablan said he has been asking the support of voters and not members of any party.
He said since he decided to run for delegate, he has been talking to the people to discuss his positions on issues, including the CNMI’s political status and relationship with the U.S.
He said he has been asking CNMI citizens to support and join him in resolving issues that he thinks are very important for the commonwealth.
The former executive director of the Election Commission said he is not aware of the extent of support he is getting from any political party.
Sablan is a former two-term Democratic member of the House but has several supporters in the Republican Party.
Sablan said that when he approaches people, he does not look at them as Republicans, Democrats or Covenant Party members.
Last week, the Republican Party leadership reminded its members that the GOP candidate for delegate is Washington Rep Pete A. Tenorio.
The GOP leadership, according to party president Ed Tenorio, was set to hold a meeting last night to discuss the letter he has drafted urging all Republicans to rally behind Pete A. Tenorio.
