Every year, she said, the mayor’s office accommodates hundreds of cultural exchange program students but only few residents volunteer as sponsors.
“We don’t want to burden the same families again,” she said, referring to the regular sponsors.
This July, she said, the mayor’s office is expecting about 50 students from the KSKK student cultural exchange program and the pilgrimage group of the Sanpoen Youth Organization of Japan.
“I am hoping that more people would be interested in sponsoring the stay of the exchange students,” Seman said.
Sponsoring these students, she added, bolsters the island’s reputation as a hospitable destination.
“It has also resulted in a special type of bonding between the family sponsoring the home stay and the students,” she said.
The KSKK students will arrive on July 25 while the Sanpoen group will be here on July 29.
