Tenorio, the Republican Party’s delegate candidate, told Senate President Pete P. Reyes it is critical that the Washington Representative’s Office remain in operation without fear of budgetary interruption until its closure date.
He asked Reyes, R-Saipan, to ensure that his office get funding for the first quarter of fiscal year 2009 which starts on Oct. 1.
Tenorio’s budget request for the period includes personnel expenses, repatriation costs for those staff hired from Saipan, their annual leave lump sum payouts, among other items.
“I humbly ask that my office be included in any exemption provision along with the three other government agencies and the Legislature,” he told the Senate president in a letter.
He noted that close to three decades of valuable historical documents, from his office in Washington, D.C. and Saipan, must be scanned and downloaded onto CDs before they can be transmitted to the NMI Archives for preservation.
“There is a multitude of work that needs to be completed before the premises in both D.C. and the Saipan District Office can be secured for closure. With just three months remaining until my staff and I vacate, there is still so much to do,” he said.
