“Tinian and Rota will actively participate in the festivities,” he said.
Mayor Melchor A. Mendiola of Rota and Mayor Ramon M. Dela Cruz of Tinian have confirmed their participation.
When asked if he could also be grand marshal for Saipan, Flores said “it not time yet.”
He said he will soon announce Saipan’s grand marshal.
For the Northern Islands, Mayor Tobias Aldan has yet to recommend a grand marshal.
This Friday, Flores said all is set for the opening of the Liberation Day festivities that will last until July 10.
The Liberation Day Committee headed by Jonas Barcinas has already listed the programs and activities that will be held at the Garapan Fishing Base.
Liberation Day Queen Committee chairwoman Vinycia Seman said they will present the three contestants — Joni Francesca Cruz Castro, Nizelynn Teregeyo Masayos, and Mariah Dina Indalecio Ada — during the opening day.
On Monday, the mayor’s personnel started the ground work at the activity center by filling it with coral and aggregates.
In partnership with P&A Corporation, the mayor’s office also cut down at least two “dying” flame trees in the area.
Yesterday, Bill Bezzant, Liberation Site And Ground Committee chairman, started preparing the performing stage.
This year, the Liberation Day Committee has decided to use tents for concessionaires and vendors.
As of yesterday, 25 food and merchandise vendors had applied for concessions.
This year’s theme is “A Band of Arms Liberating Communities to Freedom, the Island Way.”
