Prior to the incident, Variety was told the victim had returned to her vehicle after sightseeing and lighted a cigarette when the robber “darted from nowhere” and occupied the front passenger seat.
The victim’s bag was on the front passenger seat. It contained her wallet with over $100 cash, identification cards, other personal belongings, documents and a camera.
The victim, already on the driver’s seat, struggled, but the robber pushed her out of the car.
The suspect hurriedly transferred to the driver seat and sped away.
The robber was described as medium built. He covered his face with a brown scarf and was wearing an overall.
The victim suffered a minor scratch after hitting the ground. She was on her third day on Saipan, and it was her first visit to the commonwealth.
The Department of Public Safety had yet to respond to the inquiries of this reporter.
