He said CUC is expecting additional leaks in Lower Base, Tanapag, Navy Hill and Chinatown as the water pressure and extension of service coverage increases.
Last week, the $2.7 million Rapogao and Sablan Quarry Well Field Isolation and Water System Improvement Project was completed.
The project will serve about 7,000 people on Saipan.
Malae said the facility will improve chlorination and increase storage capacity.
The well field isolation and water system will also re-route the discharge of 12 wells to a single storage and point of chlorination, he said.
Other concerns on Saipan include the maintenance of rehabilitated wastewater treatment plants and the reduction of odor at the Sadog Tasi plant, he added.
On Rota, he said, although water quality is excellent, CUC still has to make some modifications in order to avoid high treatment costs as required by the Safe Drinking Water Act.
“We work closely with Division on Environmental Quality on this effort,” he said.
