It was the first time that the people of Gagil celebrated Gagil Day, which falls on the last Saturday in July.
During one of their meetings, the people of Gagil supported the idea that every year the community should give recognition to the students from Gagil who graduated from an elementary school, high school or college as a sign of encouragement for them to continue their education.
It was decided during that meeting that the Annual Gagil Day should be celebrated on the last Saturday of July every year.
This first celebration recognized all those students from Gagil municipality who graduated from elementary, high school or college this school year and will move on to another level in the next school year.
The program on Saturday included remarks from a representative from Gachpar, the first village in Gagil to sponsor the 2010 1st Annual Gagil Day. The sponsorship will be rotating among all the villages in Gagil municipality.
A representative of the government who was present during the ceremony on Saturday made remarks on behalf of the state leadership.
The Gagil community invited Gov. Sebastian Anefal, Speaker Charles Chieng, Chief Justice Cyprian Manmaw and members of the traditional councils to take part in the ceremony.
As part of the ceremony, the community gave recognition to all elders from all the villages in Gagil who have reached the age of 60 or more prior to the awarding of the graduates from Gagil.
The Gagil community presented all the students who have graduated from school with certificates of achievement.
Prior to all the dances and other entertainment activities on Saturday, a drawing took place in order to determine the village in Gagil that will be the host of next year’s event.
