Awarding the invitation last Thursday to Kotaro were Japan’sCharge d’ Affaires Mayasuki Takashima together with Mr. Shuji Tsuji, research/advisor of Japan Embassy.
Kotaro who is a Committee Staff for the Senate Ways and Means will be departing for Japan on Wednesday, Jan 20, 2010 to attend the program and will return on Jan. 29, 2010.
The 2010 Young Leaders Invitation Program focuses on the training of diplomat.
As declared in the “Hokkaido Islanders Declaration” adopted in the Fifth Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM5), the Government of Japan (GOJ) will assist members’ efforts to implement the Pacific Plan. The Assistance Plan of PALM 5 identified “human resource development for overcoming vulnerabilities and promoting human security as one of the priority areas to address.”
The Japan Embassy said the “program is orchestrated to provide the participants with opportunities to have deeper understanding of GOJ’s policy and effort to develop human resources through lectures and site visits.”
Kotaro and participants from other Pacific Island nations will also have the opportunity to visit the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan; Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); Pacific Islands Centre (PIC) and Special programs for better understanding of Japanese culture.
Participants from Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Republic of Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu and Republic of Vanuatu will join Ms. Kotaro in the said training.
Together with her parents Josepha and McCarthy Kotaro, Ms. Kotaro received the invitation and airline ticket.
